First Sub-7m Run

2023-10-20

When I was a kid, "Sub7" was a trojan horse. I remember trying to use it, putting in the IP addresses of my friends revealed by ICQ (which used to just list it on their profiles, imagine that) into the client to see if it would hack them - not understanding at the time it needed to be installed on their computer first. Pardon the nostalgic digression - but that's what I'm here for.

Now I've posted my first run that's sub-7 minutes. Basically, I've been putting in a few runs each night after work this week, and each night beating the previous record at least once. At this point, I'm sticking to the same strat and hoping to plateau out a bit at some point and then really dig into optimizations. I actually have several thoughts around where those will be, but almost want to save testing them + the associated theory crafting for a bit later.

I haven't recorded/posted any new VODs and again am waiting to plateau then optimize before doing that. I guess I would estimate the plateau would be around 6m 30s or so? Maybe 6m? I still don't have a great impression of how much time savings I can squeeze out of the current strat I'm running. I've been cutting 5-10s off each night but there will be diminishing returns there.

Anyway, my #1 priority is to at least try and develop an autosplitter this weekend. As mentioned before, I don't like the clunkiness and imprecision of manual splitting. Assuming it's relatively feasible despite the DOSBox layer, I can hopefully get that done even though I suspect it will be a headache.

I think that's about it for now, gotta run!
